Is the solution in getting Alsa to recognize my soundcard How do I do that Many thanks, Drone12.I have the Linux Mint 12 64-bit version installed on an Intel Solid State Drive.
Creative X-Fi For Ubuntu Windows 7 64 BitI also have Windows 7 64 bit on the same computer (but on a separate standard 1 Terrabyte hard drive.
I choose which drive to boot from on startup.) The issue is the following. If I want to get sound out of the computer I must unplug the speakers RCA cable from the soundcard and use the tiny headphone jack to plug them into the tiny headphone socket on the front of my computer. Not impressive. I cannot get the soundcard to export anysound whatsoever when using Linux Mint 12 64-bit. I think its a fantasic operating system that gives the user more control over their computer. My first Linux OS was Debian, then I switched to Ubuntu, before settling into Linux Mint 12 which is really nice. I think it is a real shame that I cant get my state of the art top-end Sound Card to work with Linux Mint. What this means is that if I want to take advantage of the high fidelity sound that is a feature of my sound card, then I must record using Windows software. Yuch Why cant I use my sound card with Mint This is one of the reasons I still stick with a dual boot OS that includes Windows. Nobody is ever going to completely switch to Linux unless there is the support for top end hardware from the Linux community. I have seen posts from others who own this card and they havent had much luck either. The driver is called XFiDrvLinuxPublicUS1.00.tar.gz I believe this is the link to the driver. Here is some more info that is usually asked for in Linux help forums. Any assistance would be very much appreciated by both myself and other people who would like to use Linux Mint for music related projects. Here is the error I get when I try to make the file: XFiDrvLinuxPublicUS1.00 make make -C libmodules3.0.0-12-genericbuild MhomeeDownloadsXFiDrvLinuxPublicUS1.00 make1: Entering directory usrsrclinux-headers-3.0.0-12-generic CC M homeeDownloadsXFiDrvLinuxPublicUS1.00xfi.o homeeDownloadsXFiDrvLinuxPublicUS1.00xfi.c:14:26: fatal error: sounddriver.h: No such file or directory compilation terminated. I tried the below in terminal: sudo modprobe ctxfi FATAL: Module ctxfi not found. I should mention that I also have an NVIDIA video card installed. I have modified my alsa-base.conf in the way described in the link and re-booted. Creative X-Fi For Ubuntu Code From TheI also tried the following code from the same forum: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-audio-devppa sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install linux-alsa-driver-modules-(uname -r) No change. Despite the above lack of success I feel Im getting closer to identifying the problem after running the Alsa information script: wget -O alsa-info.sh bash alsa-info.sh The output is found at the following link:. Creative X-Fi For Ubuntu Series Is NotAfter looking at the output I noticed that the Creative Labs X-Fi Titanium series is not listed in the Soundcards Recognized by Alsa section, however it is listed in the section titled PCI Soundcards installed in the system. Does this mean that my system recognizes that the soundcard is installed, but that Alsa wont recognize it and therefore it wont work.
